Welcome to workshop #4
You have accomplished a lot toward creating
a genuine community through TG4S
workshops. You have been documenting
the outcomes of each workshop and sharing your
findings with teachers, staff, and administrators.
If appropriate, you have provided video recordings of the workshops to the IT department to upload to the school website, and you are taking note of the impact parent involvement has on student academic performance and behavior.
As with all things, the best-laid plans can often
go wrong, taking a nose dive when you least expect it. Parents and teachers can attest to this, and we accept occasional nose dives as a fact of life. For students, learning is a necessary process, and when things go wrong, it is the support and guidance of parents and teachers that help them get back on their feet when they fall. With each workshop activity, facilitators need to connect the title of the activity to the theme of that day’s event and the purpose of their involvement.
Activity
Title: Nose Dive
Items: petroleum jelly, cotton balls, bowls
Rules: Players must transfer cotton balls one by one from one bowl to another, using petroleum jelly on their noses. The first player to transfer five cotton balls wins.
All of us are managing real-life stressors and
difficulties. This includes remote learning and mask mandates as a result of COVID-19. As a result, many students struggle when they return to the classroom, and parents are desperate for their lives to return to normal. This uncertainty has created a school environment that can be stressful for students and teachers. It is essential to acknowledge the reality of these challenges and elicit feedback from parents and their thoughts on how TG4S workshops can address these concerns.
