You have challenged the notion that parents
don’t want to be involved because of a lack
of interest in their children’s educational
success, and once these barriers were removed, you discovered that parents could contribute significant and tangible support to their children and work with teachers as a team to achieve that goal.
This final workshop will focus on recognizing
the sacrifices parents have made to complete the
workshops and provide an opportunity for all
participants to critically assess students’ academic
and behavior objectives identified and agreed upon at the start of the workshops. This information is vital because it will create a foundation for future parent and teacher involvement as you develop strategies and tasks to achieve these objectives.
Activity
Title: Stack Attack
Items: cups
Rules: Players must create a pyramid of cups. Once built, players must slide down the cups to create a single stack.
The completion of these workshops is an opportunity to recognize participant accomplishments and reflect on what is possible when parents and teachers come together to bridge their differences.
You may decide to have a graduation in the next week or at a time that best fits your parents’ schedules. The entire school community will be invited, providing an opportunity for all participants to share their experiences. Food and refreshments will be served, and if participants offer consent, the event can be video recorded.
