The Missing Link Newsletter – Week 4

You’ve built the foundation-now it’s time to put the plan into motion.

This month, we’ll walk through officially prepare for the 10-Week Parent Engagement Challenge, a movement designed to transform the way families and schools connect.

In The Missing link, we learned that sustainable parent involvement doesn’t happen by chance-it happens through clarity, consistency, and collaboration.

That’s what Week 4 is all about: setting your team up for a strong start.

The Power of a Clear Beginning

Starting strong means setting expectations early.

Before you begin Week 1 of the Challenge, make sure your school or family team completes these 3 essential steps:

  1. Define the Vision – Clarify what “success” will look like for your school or family after 10 weeks.

• Example: “By the end of this challenge, every family will have had at least one positive communication with a teacher.

2. Set Simple Roles – Assign small, clear responsibilities to your team.

• Parents – Family engagement champions.

• Teachers – Communicators and connectors.

• Students – Voices of inspiration.

3. Share the Plan – Announce the challenge in your parent newsletter, group chat, or bulletin board.

• Create excitement and let everyone know: This is our Togetr4Success moment!

Action Step of the Week: “Plan Your Kickoff Day”

Host a short (15-30 minute) Kickoff Event to introduce the challenge! It can be virtual or in-person.

•Welcome & Purpose (5 min)

• Overview of the 10-Week Challenge (5 min)

• Parent/Teacher Voices: “Why Engagement Matters” (10 min)

• Sign-Up & Celebration Plan (5 min)

“Parents don’t need perfection-they need participation. Every small step builds trust.”

The best engagement programs start with energy, structure, and celebration. Don’t wait for families to “get involved”-invite them to join a movement.

When schools model enthusiasm, families follow.

Sneak Peek: Week 5 – “Trust + Communication = Momentum”

Next week, we’ll kick off Challenge Week 1 with powerful strategies for building trust and communication between parents and teachers-your first building block for sustained engagement.
