Parent and teacher conference was the norm, and those conferences can provoke anxiety. We have become conditioned that this school practice may contribute to a lack of parent involvement. However, new and different things can create excitement and positive energy, and as you will see in this activity, there is high energy and excitement.
The long-term goal is to substantially impact parents and teachers while integrating this model into school policy. Parent and teacher surveys will show the number of workshop sessions parents and teachers have completed. It will show the number of face-to-face contacts, telephone, email, and text messages outside of weekly workshops, and it will offer insight into the quality of those contacts through verbal and written feedback received by parents at the end of each workshop.
As workshop facilitators, you are asked to reflect on the progress you have made in establishing parent involvement, discuss progress toward achieving teaching objectives and discuss ways in which you and the parent can build upon the progress you have made throughout the school year.
