Workshop #5
School violence, bullying, and shootings have become an epidemic, and it appears nothing can prevent this escalating trend. School bullying and cyberbullying are not new, and schools have initiated interventions by focusing on awareness and educating students, teachers, and parents to identify and prevent bullying. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to turn on the television and not see images of death, violence, and acts of aggression, and increased school security and school-based counseling services have been unable to thwart a student’s desire to express discontent through the use of violence. In fact, in 2022, there will be 22 school shootings, with 38 people killed or injured.
In this workshop, you will leverage the power of parents in their role of having direct knowledge of the potential risks their children pose to classmates and the possibility of that risk escalating to violence. Parents are frontline resources, and through their involvement in these workshops, they will become the “missing link” for alerting teachers and schools of behaviors they have observed that could escalate to violence.
