Let’s be honest with ourselves and at least agree on this central fact…
We have the ability to have a positive impact on our kids academic achievement if we spend more time talking and meeting with their teachers.
This starts with a real and sincere desire to work together on behalf of our kids.
Yes, the past two years has been a nightmare for everyone, and to make matters worse school mass shootings and the fear our children may not return home from school, has made us want to give up.
But we cannot give up! We can no longer assume teachers can consistently meet learning objectives, protect our children from bullying and violence and meet their social and emotional needs without our help.
That means accepting our involvement in our kids school is a necessary requirement. Parent and Teacher conferences twice per year is not sufficient and usually doesn’t result in anything positive or even memorable.
Teachers are in need our our help. Not to blame, finger point and find fault but to listen and be available to work as a unified team even if that means once per week. We know our kids and we share the same desire to ensure they receive quality education to meet real world demands.
So let’s face it. Our involvement in school is a necessary requirement. Teachers have been waiting for our involvement so let’s give them what they need.
