Parent Involvement in School. A Necessary Requirement.

We have the ability to have a positive impact on our kids academic achievement if we spend more time talking and meeting with their teachers.

Teachers are in need our our help. Not to blame, finger point and find fault but to listen and be available to work as a unified team even if that means once per week. We know our kids and we share the same desire to ensure they receive quality education to meet real world demands.

As little as one day per week visit with your child’s teachers can make a big difference and have a lasting impact on your child. You don’t have to wait for an invitation from the school. Start by initiating contact in person and asking how you can get involved.

If you don’t have to time to meet with your child’s teacher, call, text, or email them. You can also remove books and items from your child’s backpack and see for yourself what they are learning. Completed assignments, homework and essential school documents can be found in your child’s backpack. If you have spoken with your child’s teacher, then items in your child’s backpack should support that conversation.

You’re child’s academic progress often falters when there is a gap between your contact with their teachers and information your child shares with you. Kids don’t always share academic-related information with parents. Especially when they find themselves struggling or have fallen behind. This is where you need to stay ahead of the game by staying informed with at least weekly contacts with their teachers.

If you still need to be nudged in the right direction, ask your child’s school and teachers about the 10-week challenge. This blog site provides information to get you and your child’s teachers started right now.
