The Missing Link Newsletter

This issue emphasizes that students attend consistently when they feel they belong, and parent involvement is the strongest force reinforcing that sense of belonging.

“Students Show Up Where They Feel They Belong”

As we continue our Parent Engagement Challenge, we now focus on one of the deepest drivers of consistent attendance:

👉 Belonging

Students attend school regularly when they feel:

• Seen

• Supported

• Encouraged

• Connected

And the strongest source of that connection begins at home.

When parents stay involved, communicate with teachers, and reinforce the value of school, students develop the belief that their presence matters every single day.

📊 Key Concept: Belonging Drives Attendance

Attendance improves dramatically when students:

✔️ Feel welcome by teachers and staff

✔️ Know their parents support their education

✔️ Believe their learning matters

✔️ Have trusted adults both at home and school

“Attendance is not only about routines – it’s about relationships.

-The Missing Link

Parent involvement strengthens those relationships long before attendance problems begin.

🧩 This Weeks Challenge Action: “The Belonging Conversation”

This week’s activity is simple but powerful.

Parents:

Have a 5-minute conversation with your child and ask:

• “What makes you feel good about going to school?”

• “Is there anything that makes school harder for you?”

• “Who at school helps you feel supported?”

Listen first. Fix later.

Schools & Teachers:

✔️ Encourage students to name one adult they trust at school

✔️ Reach out to families if a student seems disconnected

✔️ Reinforce messages that every student matters

Togetr4success Tip:

Connection prevents absenteeism before routines even begin.

💡 Togetr4success Insight:

Many attendance problems are not logistical – they are emotional.

When students feel disconnected, unmotivated, or invisible, attendance slips.

But when parents stay engaged and maintain open conversations with both their children and the school, small concerns get addressed before they grow.

Belonging creates motivation.

Motivation creates consistency.

📝 Weekly Reflection Question

Ask this at home or in school meetings:

“What helps our students feel excited or comfortable about going to school?”

The answer often reveals the strongest path to improved attendance.

☀️ Celebration Focus: Recognizing Connections

This week, celebrate:

• Students who showed improved participation

• Parents who checked in with their child about school

• Teachers who strengthened relationships with families

Connection deserves recognition because connection drives success.

🔔 Turning Attendance Into a Lifelong Habit.

Next week, we focus on helping families moved from short-term improvements to permanent attendance habits that last beyond this challenge.
